Stephen R. Hellman is an associate of the Law Offices of Paul A. Boronow, PC, a law firm that focuses on Matrimonial and Family Law, Criminal Defense and Estate Law litigation. With more than fifteen years of legal experience, Mr. Hellman has tried numerous cases with positive results involving abuse and neglect, shaken baby syndrome, orders of protection, custody and visitation, grandparent custody and visitation, equitable distribution matters, support matters, enforcement and modification proceedings, and criminal cases in the Nassau County, Suffolk County and Queens County courts. Mr. Hellman has drafted countless pendente lite applications, orders to show cause, notices of motion, custody and visitation applications, orders of protection, neglect and abuse petitions, and omnibus motions. For over ten years, Mr. Hellman represented litigants as a member of the 18-b panel as well as represented children as an Attorney for the Child/Law Guardian. Mr. Hellman has argued appeals before the New York State Appellate Division with numerous published opinions. Mr. Hellman has published three articles in the Touro Law Review pertaining to custody and juvenile delinquency matters, and he won second prize in The Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers writing competition. Mr. Hellman has given yearly lectures to practicing attorneys at the Suffolk County Bar Association on the issue of litigating abuse and neglect of children cases. Mr. Hellman has twice been awarded pro bono attorney of the month and was selected as pro bono attorney of the year by the Suffolk County Bar Association, and was bestowed with a congressional award for pro bono services. Mr. Hellman previously was the principal law clerk for the Patchogue Village Court. Mr. Hellman has a background in law enforcement having worked as a police officer prior to attending law school. His law enforcement background gives him a unique insight with regard to domestic violence and criminal cases.
