Admitted in New York State, Second Judicial Department
New York State's Appellate Division hears civil and criminal case appeals and certain original proceedings commenced or transferred to it as provided by law. The Second Judicial Department administrates cases in the 10 downstate counties of Richmond, Kings, Queens, Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester, Dutchess, Orange, Rockland, and Putnam.
U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York
This court processes civil and criminal cases in the Eastern District, which has a population of approximately eight million people and is comprised of the counties of Kings, Nassau, Queens, Richmond, and Suffolk.
U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York
This court encompasses the counties of New York, Bronx, Westchester, Rockland, Putnam, Orange, Dutchess, and Sullivan.
